Bad Boss! Bad!
I am continuing the "online journal" for Karim's current job situation, recording the progression of evil deeds his current boss is so blatantly working.
Karim reported to me this morning that his boss plans to call him in to work this afternoon to go through a series of questions on some money that has recently gone missing. I believe I have written before about "missing money", and this is a new one. The "investigator" in question is supposedly a friend of the boss, but we do not know if this is a police officer or not. The money went missing from the front desk agent/waitress of a shift either before or after Karim's (but I've forgotten, and do not wish to wake him up to ask), and the boss has decreed that Karim MUST be questioned. When Karim asked if he was the only one, he was told that the girl who's shift the money was missing from, the shift before, and the shift after would all be investigated.
I have a lot of questions regarding this "investigation". Firstly, if this was a legal investigation by a police force, Karim should be notified by the police ahead of time, not by the boss. Why are only the front desk being questioned? Why not all the rest of the staff? Since money has been missing from the hotel now and again since this "owner" started, (which, by the way was before Karim arrived), why has he never reported the missing monies to the police? Why, all of a sudden after Karim has given his two weeks notice is all of this happening? (I think the answer to that is, "duh!")
To top that, the last issue about money came up in conversation with the boss last night, and when karim told him that he would give the money to him when he got his last paycheck, the "boss" explained that he would block his last paycheck. That's not legal. I looked it up. None of this "payback" for missing money is. There MUST be VERIFIABLE PROOF that my husband is stealing money for him either to fire Karim or to take money from him either from deduction or from a cash transaction.
In my last post about this situation I said that I believed that there would be a problem with his last paycheck and I still believe it. In fact, I am more convinced than ever that this new situation is simply a ploy to keep the boss from giving him a penny. I think that it is his plan to try to set up some sort of "proof" or some kind of "issue" that will enable him to do it legally.
At any rate, I have instructed Karim not to answer any questions without reason, not to give more information than he needs to, and if he feels that his rights are being violated to mention that he will not answer any more questions without a lawyer. I have also explained to him that if race or religion are mention AT ALL, to ask for the line of questioning to continue only with a lawyer present and to end the questioning at which time we will contact the lawyer and begin proceedings. This cannot and will not continue--not for Karim and not for others following. I, personally don't care about the last paycheck, knowing that God will take care of us, and that Karim should simply stop going to this job. There are actually only 6 days left on this one before he begins the other one, which is why I'm so baffled that the boss doesn't just "drop it" and get on with life. If Karim really WERE a thief, which isn't even possible considering his personality and his relationship to Allah, the boss could simply test this by finding whether the stealing stops after Karim leaves, and using it as a tax write-off. However, I suspect that the man isn't even filing taxes at all.
One thing that I forgot to mention, that I think is extremely important at this point: During Hurricane Rita, when we were holed up in that dreadful hotel, the boss had a hand gun, which he waved proudly in front of many of us, letting us know that we were "protected". At one point, when a stranger wandered into the parking lot and started looking through the windows of the cabana, the "boss" pointed the gun at him and told him to leave. I saw the gun in the elevator when the boss whipped it out in front of me and a couple of other people, proudly waving it, shaking like an excited kid and scaring us half to death. I didn't see it after that, but he has made a point of showing it and a "new" gun to Karim during his shift. I don't know if these were open threats or simply the stupidity of a crazy man, but I don't trust him with the guns, either. If anything were to happen to Karim, I would know exactly who to blame.
