Discovering Ray

Karim and I were finally able to watch the movie, "Ray", and as a result, both of us have fallen madly in love with his music. He was an interesting character with a lot of idiosyncrasies (who of us isn't), but as I listen to "Georgia on My Mind", I understand how this song forgives him. I love this song for many reasons. First and foremost, my daughter's name is "Georgia", and when I hear it I think of her and how beautiful and sweet she is. However, this song, for some reason, has followed me all of my life. I accompanied our junior Jazz Choir with this song on the piano in the seventh and eighth grades, sang soprano, alto and tenor in this song throughout high school, and finally settled on soprano and piano accompaniment in the University. I can still sing all the parts. One would think I'd had enough of this song, but over the years it has become almost a theme song for me. Whenever Karim hears this song, he says, "Habib elby", which roughly translated means, "dear to my heart". For him, I think that one could easily replace the word "Georgia" with "Egypt" and it would say what he feels.
I won't go into any more detail today. The expensive "new/used" keyboard that we bought is worse than the old one...
