The Bible and the Byrds

On my way to and from work this afternoon, I was listening to one of my favorite songs, of which there are many, and it was like a revelation. It's funny how God works. When He wants you to realize something, He lets everything around you speak for Him, and He keeps at it until you get the point. The song in question is called "Turn, Turn, Turn" by a group called the Byrds. Newer generations might not know of it, but it comes from the "peace, love" era, and has a great message. In fact, the message is straight out of the bible, with a few grammatical changes according to the version used and poetic license. Let me quote the passage from scripture:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to uproot; a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build; a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance; a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them; a time to embrace and a time to refrain; a time to search and a time to give up; a time to keep and a time to throw away; a time to tear and a time to mend; a time to be silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace. What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in it's time; he has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil--this is the gift of God. ECC 3:1-13

I would also like to point out a verse in Qu'ran that relates and is very comforting to me. (Don't hang up the phone just yet. Islam, in it's perfect form is not much different than Christianity...don't panic.)

He created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): He makes the night overlap the day, and the day overlap the night: He has subjected the sun and the moon (to his law). Each one follows a course for a time appointed. Is not He the exalted in Power--He who forgives again and again? AZ-ZUMAR 6

God's had enough of tapping me on the head. He's resorted to hitting me with large objects and finally, I hope, He's starting to get his message through my thick skull. Okay, hmmm, so, perhaps now He's trying to tell me to be...PATIENT? (This is my least favorite word...but I seem to have heard a lot since childhood. I wonder why that is?) Everything comes around in it's appointed time. We will find peace and tranquility when it is time. We will have an apartment when it is time. We will work for decent bosses when it is time. But, right now, it is not time, and until God says that it's time, it ain't happnin' baby!
Therefore, I will leave you with the words of the Byrds:

A time to love, a time to hate,
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late."

Comments:
It's good to pause and rest awhile
From life's demanding pace...
To leave the loud,
Chaotic crowd
And find a peaceful place,
To put on the cloak of quietness
With heart and mind at ease,
To sit with a friend
At the long day's end
And recall fond memories....

I have such fond memories of you, Denise. Reading your daily journal makes me feel so close to you. God bless you both!
