Here's to my husband!
Poor Karim is working in a dead end job. His boss, a Pakistani, is an awful man, who has no experience in hotels whatsoever. The problem with this, is that he tries to make people BELIEVE that he knows what he's doing. His main objective in life is to come in to the hotel when it pleases him, glance at the audit of the night before, and yell at his employees about their mistakes. If he can't find a mistake, he will make one up. In my husband's case, he has objected to mistakes that Karim did not make, and when confronted about it, tells him he is stupid. This lovely man, the "boss", doesn't know the computer system at all. He doesn't know how to check a customer in, nor how to do the audit. He recently belittled a receptionist about a small mistake which would have taken her five seconds to fix in the computer, but because of his temper, he decided to do it himself. It took three hours. My husband has a bachelor's degree in this field, and should be in a five star hotel managing a fully equipped front desk staff, instead of in this has-been, flea-bag joint working for pennies that he has to remind the boss to give him. He doesn't give benefits, bonuses, vacations, insurance, workers comp., or overtime. Sound legal? Half of the rooms in the hotel are out of service, but when the serviceable ones are full, he will insist that his receptionist open a room (at full rate, mind you) even if the Air conditioner isn't working, or the handle is falling off the shower. There is no fire line to this hotel, although there is a fire hydrant. He pays off the "right people" to keep it this way...way too expensive the other way. Half of the Ice machines are not working, and sometimes the vending machines take the money and run. (I think they are programmed to do that...)
At first, I thought, perhaps this man was trying to sabotage this hotel for financial reasons. Buy it low, sell it high, you know. I tried to "analyze" the situation...Perhaps he's laundering money. Maybe he is trying to do things slowly, as the money comes, But since I have been here...watching...I see the truth. He's a complete idiot. I can say this because I don't work here, and as I am not giving out names, I know that my husband's job is safe, regardless of how many times a day he (along with the rest of the staff) are threatened with firing.
The reason I'm writing this, is because my poor husband's morale is very low. He sees this as the way America is run, no different than any other third world country. He feels used, unimportant and depressed, and he has only been in this job since the last week of January. I would like to say to my husband that this is NOT America. Don't let the impression of the fool lead you, for when you do, the fool wins, and where does that leave you...less than a fool. You are more important than you know...even if only to me. You know more about the hotel business than many people, including your boss, and that is why he picks on you. You trained hard for this career, and this job is not where it ends, only where it begins. You are doing such a wonderful job in this hotel, and I see it, and your customers know it by your service, and your smile...which, by the way, is the sexiest smile I have ever seen. So, hold your head up high. You are an Egyptian...son of the Pharoahs, descendent of geniuses, a people above people. Of course your boss is jealous of you...But, if nothing else matters in this world...if this job cuts you off at the knees, if everything else were to crumble at your feet, remember that I still love you. And that is a promise.

Hey guys, I heard that the FBI is looking for translators. What a perfect job for Karim! What's he doing working for a Pakistani anyway? Let him listen to the old country song. "Take this job and shove it!"
Guess who!
